Shock at Ulster Bank announcement to close Irvinestown Branch

Published: 15 November, 2017

Sinn Féin MLA Jemma Dolan has expressed her disappointment at Ulster Bank's announcement that they are to close their Irvinestown Branch in June 2018.

The Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA said,

"The announcement from Ulster Bank this afternoon has come as a shock. Irvinestown is a busy town, with thriving businesses so this decision is a disappointing one.

"This is not only a bank closure, it is another loss of rural services and it will also result in job losses. Sinn Féin Cllr John Feely added

"This brings all sorts of disruptions to local people and local businesses. Although Ulster Bank have placed an emphasis on online banking this is not always viable, particularly with weak broadband service and for those who aren't as familiar with computers.

"Ulster Bank leaving Irvinestown adds to a continuing trend of major banks leaving Fermanagh and it will leave the town with just one bank.

"We have requested a meeting with Ulster Bank to discuss this further." ENDS
