Wrong for school children to pay price for Tory cuts - Dolan

Sinn Féin MLA Jemma Dolan has said it is wrong for school children to pay the price for Tory cuts.

The Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA was reacting to reports that primary and nursery schools are to receive £56 less per pupil this school year.

Jemma Dolan said:

"We have already seen our schools coming under serious financial pressure as a direct result of Tory austerity cuts, year on year, to the block grant.

"Since they came into power we have seen the Tories cut over a billion pounds from the North's block grant. Local schools and local children are paying the price for this.

"School staff that I have been speaking to today have serious concerns as to the impact these cuts will have on children and staff alike.

"The DUP should immediately withdraw their support for this austerity-driven Tory government and end their opposition to rights and equality so that we can get local ministers back in place." - Ends/Críoch
