Lack of permanent contracts one of reasons waiting times on increase - Councillor Coyle

Published: 2 March, 2016

Councillor Debbie Coyle has cited a lack of permanent contracts for staff as one of the inefficiencies which is leading to increased waiting times in the Health Service.

Speaking following the release of quarterly waiting time figures, which have increased again, within the health trusts, Councillor Coyle said:

"There appears to be an ongoing issue in the Western Trust whereby nursing staff, junior doctors and consultants are only being offered short-term employment contracts.

"As a result of this, it is obviously going to be difficult to attract staff from outside the area that would be looking for more job security before uprooting their families and homes.

"This is just one of many inefficiencies within our current health service and waiting times increasing are symptomatic of that.

"I will continue to raise this issue with the Fermanagh & Omagh District Council Health Committee and I, along with my party colleagues, will continue to lobby for a more efficient health service that works for the people in our community." -Ends/Crioch
