Flanagan helps raise £17,532 for Parkinsons Support Fermanagh

Sinn Féin MLA Phil Flanagan braved the soaring temperatures as he took to walking on hot coals in aid of Parkinson's Support Fermanagh at the weekend.

The fundraising event, which proved to be a fun evening out for all the family included activites such as BBQ, face paints and of course walking on fire and glass.

Speaking from the event Mr Flanagan said,

"I was approached by a local member of the Parkinson's Support Fermanagh branch to walk on hot coals. It was a unique way of fundraising and it was for a worthy cause. Plus, the work that the Parkinson's Support Fermanagh group does goes largely unrecognised and therefore it was a way of showing my apperception to them.

"It is fantastic to see over 500 people here this evening for such an admirable group and in total, £17,532 was raised - all of which will be used locally. It is a fun evening for all of the family and the community as a whole.

"There are over 100 members in the Parkinsons Support Fermanagh Branch and the work they do is admirable. They meet in the Tempo Road Day Centre, Enniskillen on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and provide a range of activities and events from guest speakers to a befriending service.

"It is obvious that a lot of work went into organising the event this evening so I highly commend those involved and thank them for asking me to part of their fundraising. I look forward to continue working with group in the future." ENDS
