Flangan welcomes wi-fi access in South West Acute Hospital

Published: 11 June, 2015

Sinn Féin MLA Phil Flanagan has welcomed the provision public access wi-fi for patients in and visitors to the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen.

Mr Flanagan said:

"I commend the Western Trust for adopting my proposal and investing in wi-fi internet access for both patients and staff. I have had reason to visit the hospital in recent days and was delighted to see the provision of wi-fi has really taken off.

"For some time, clinicians have been availing of the benefits of wi-fi to improve patient outcomes, but offering it to patients and visitors is a very progressive and positive step.

"With single occupancy rooms, patients can become lonely in the hospital, but the ability to browse the internet, check emails, use social media, stream TV shows online and make calls through Skype could help deal with some of those problems of isolation.

"This facility will also allow patients waiting for an appointment to pass the time by using the internet and lead to a more tolerable experience of what can be an anxious time for many." ENDS
