Cllr Coyle pays tribute to Volunteers
Published: 4 June, 2015
Sinn Féin Councillor Debbie Coyle has chosen this week, Volunteer Week, to praise volunteers across the North and recognise the invaluable contribution they make in our society.
A member of the voluntary "Hazelnuts Cross Community Group", Cllr Coyle said
"Although we appreciate and value the contribution of volunteers all year round, we felt this week was fitting to host a coffee morning in the Leaf Centre to recognize the contribution of volunteers in our area.
"We were delighted to have Gavin Connelly from Volunteer Now with us to present the volunteers in attendance with certificates in acknowledgment of their hard work and commitment in the community. The community and voluntary sector are often started up by dedicated volunteers and our community group is no different.
"Our organisation could not operate without the hard work and dedication of not only the volunteers within The Hazelnuts but also the members of Cavanaleck Community Association and the Chanterhill Community Association.
"We have volunteers who give a few hours a month of their time and we have volunteers who dedicate a few hours a week, but as within all voluntary organizations, no matter how much time you can commit every minute counts and it is valued.
"The community value, the economic value and the personal value of volunteering should not be underestimated. Not only is the organization and the community benefiting but on a personal level the volunteer is gaining a variety of experience and skills, as well as building on personal confidence and self esteem.
