Flanagan encourages attendance at safeTALK training

Sinn Fein MLA Phil Flanagan is encouraging attendance at the upcoming safeTALK Suicide Awareness and Prevention training taking place in Enniskillen on Tuesday 16th June.

Speaking ahead of the training, the Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said,

"Suicide is a community-wide health problem. Rates are scarily high and an individual taking their own life cripples families and communities. Suicide can be prevented, if intervention comes about and the safeTALK training equips individuals with these necessary intervention skills. The seminar also provides the participants the ability to recognise a person with thoughts of suicide and to engage them.

"Therefore I would encourage as many people to register for the free safeTALK training in the SWAH on Tuesday 6th June from 9.15am to 12.30pm. safeTALK is a free 3 hour seminar aimed at individuals aged over 16 years which raises general, much needed, awareness on how to prevent suicide in our community.

"I would call on all sporting clubs, community groups and organisations to send at least one representative to this training, as this is an opportunity to ensure that suicide awareness and prevention remains one of the top priorities in this county.

"It is a short but informative training programme that might just save a life. For further information please contact the Health Improvement Department on 028 71865127 or email health.improvement@westerntrust.hscni.net.
