"Fermanagh South Tyrone seat belongs to Sinn Féin" - Gildernew
Published: 22 March, 2015
Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew has expressed how the electoral pacts made between political parties in the upcoming Westminster elections will not deter the success of Sinn Féin.
Speaking from her election launch today in Moy, Co.Tyrone Ms.Gildernew says,
"I have held this seat since 2001 and I have worked as a proud abstentionist MP very effectively since.
"I am still extremely humbled & proud to be following in the footsteps of Bobby Sands and Owen Carron - two of the greatest revolutionaries the republican movement has ever had.
"Tom Elliott can make open pacts with his fellow Unionists and silent pacts with those parties whose leadership can't even remember if they have even selected a candidate yet for Fermanagh and South Tyrone but it will not stop me representing everyone regardless of creed, colour or sexual orientation and it will not stop the forward growth of Sinn Féin.
The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP continues,
"Sinn Féin has 3 Senators, 4 MEP's, 5 MP's, 14 TD's, 29 MLAs, 264 councillors, over 10 thousand members and half a million votes across this island.
"We are the largest party in Ireland and in Fermanagh and South Tyrone, we can make that even bigger.
"And I have no doubt in my mind that we can do it - we did it in 2001, we did it in 2010 and with the strength, power and relevance of our party, we can do it in 2015.
"This seat belongs to Bobby Sands; this seat belongs to Sinn Féin." ENDS
