Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew has expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family of Monaghan man Kieran McAree whose body was discovered earlier today after a nine-week search.

The MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone said:

"It was with great sadness I learned of the discovery of the body of Kieran McAree in Enniskillen earlier today. Kieran should have been celebrating his 24th birthday a few days ago, yet today volunteers uncovered his body.

"I was down with the McAree family on a number of occasions while the search was going on and their strength, faith and belief was astounding. They were determined they would not give up and return to Monaghan without Kieran and I feel a sense of closure for them today, as his body has been discovered.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the wider community of Monaghan at this time. My thoughts are also with the large teams of dedicated volunteers who travelled from all ends of the country to help in the search for Kieran's body and to help the McAree family gain closure.
