Feely Welcomes street lighting repairs
Published: 11 February, 2015
Sinn Féin Councillor Anthony Feely has welcomed news that all street lighting will be repaired over the coming months.
Mr Feely said,
"The Regional Development Minster Danny Kennedy has confirmed that due to increased funding that all broken street lighting will be repaired within a short period.
"I welcome the news that all lighting will be brought back to standard as this has become a health and safety issue especially in areas where multiple lights were out.
"It was a reoccurring issue over the past number of months, particularly during the Christmas period when the evenings were darker and the weather and driving conditions were worse. Therefore I am relieved at this news.
The Erne West councillor adds,
"However, while I welcome the news that lighting is to be repaired we should never havebeen put in the situation where lamps were allowed to remain out for such a long time.
"I am calling on the Minister to ensure that once the lighting has been repaired to ring fence money to ensure repairs are carried out on a regular basis so we do not return to the situation where areas were plunged into darkness." ENDS/CRÍOCH
