Fermanagh & Omagh Council logo launched by Sinn Féin Councillors

Published: 2 February, 2015

Sinn Féin Councillors Thomas O'Reilly, Presiding Councillor and Debbie Coyle, deputy Presiding Councillor of the new Fermanagh and Omagh Council, officially launched the logo and branding of the new council simultaneously yesterday in The Strule Arts Centre, Omagh and the Ardowen Theatre in Enniskillen.

Speaking from the launch Cllr. Coyle commented,

"It is an absolute privilege to launch the new Fermanagh and Omagh Logo today here in The Strule Arts Centre, especially with our special guests here from the local schools. All the students here today will receive a personal certificate with the logo on it, the very first item with the logo. I feel this is important as young people are our future and so I hope that in years to come the youth here today will remember this special day.

Cllr Coyle went on to explain how the logo came about:

"Last May 40 councillors were elected in the local government elections to the new Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. We have spent the past 8 months operating in 'Shadow' mode, preparing to take up the reins on 1st April.

"The development of a logo and brand for the new Council was part of our preparations. A new corporate identity will enable the residents of the district, as well as other stakeholders, to identify with the new organisation. It will help to recognise and understand what the Council does and it will be used to identify Council facilities and services. The logo will now be seen on signage, marking the boundary of the new district as well as on Council-owned buildings and facilities. It will also be used on Council vehicles and on literature.

Cllr O'Reilly added,

"We wanted a brand which would be distinctive and which would reflect what we consider is important for the new Council. We recognise the uniqueness of our heritage and natural environment, and value our community. The logo combines these elements to create a strong visual identity.

"We considered a number of options for names, and the name Fermanagh and Omagh District Council reflects the two legacy Councils, Fermanagh District Council and Omagh District Council, from which the new Council is formed."

"As Presiding Councillor of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council I would like to thank Marcus Isherwood and his team at Creative Media for developing a logo and brand which has interpreted the Council's vision for the district as 'a place of choice - where people, communities and businesses prosper'.

"I would also like to thank the young people representing schools across Fermanagh, who are present in the Ardowen today. I was honoured to present each of them with certificates bearing the new logo, an indication that not only have they been part of history making but that they are our future." ENDS
