Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew has passed on her congratulations to two Fermanagh women, Leanne Maguire and Sophie McClintock following their election to the Cúige Officer Board.

Ms. Gildernew explains,

"300 delegates from across the North attended the Sinn Féin Cúige AGM in Kelly's Inn, Omagh on Saturday. This annual event sees the election by delegates of an officer board as well as updates on current negotiations and hearing from speakers from within the party. Our Vice President, Mary Lou McDonald gave a very insightful and uplifting key note address, that set the theme for the remainder of the day.

"I would like to congratulate all of those elected onto the Officer Board, but I have special congratulations to two Fermanagh women, Leanne Maguire and Sophie McClintock who were elected as Education Officer and Youth Officer, respectively. It is so encouraging to see two young women making a significant contribution towards the direction of the party in the North and to the field of politics.

"Young people add enthusiasm, energy and a heartfelt belief in a better future to the political process and therefore are fundamental in our development and improvement. Sinn Féin is continuously working towards inspiring our younger generation and achieving a greater gender balance and with our ever growing support across the island it is evident that we are progressing towards the two.

"I look forward to working with all of the Cúige Officer Board and I have every confidence that the two Fermanagh women will remain dedicated and will work to ensure that we in Sinn Féin continue to work for the good of our constituents." ENDS
