Departments must robustly defend any judicial review of Tamboran decision - Flanagan
Published: 1 October, 2014
Sinn Féin Fermanagh/South Tyrone MLA Phil Flanagan has called on the DETI and DOE ministers to robustly defend their decisions on the Tamboran exploration license in any Judicial Review taken by the company.
Phil Flanagan said:
"I am sure the people of Fermanagh and Leitrim will join me in welcoming the decision taken yesterday by DETI Minister Arlene Foster not to extend the timeline on Tamboran's exploration license.
"Sinn Féin opposes hydraulic fracturing and shares the concerns voiced by groups highlighting the potential damage it could pose to the environment. We have fully supported the people in their opposition to this license from it was first proposed.
"At our most recent Ard Fheis, Sinn Féin delegates passed a motion in opposition to fracking and pledged our full support to the communities who are opposed to this unsafe process.
"Therefore I would call on Tamboran not to proceed with this judicial review.
"Sinn Féin for our part will continue to oppose fracking at Executive level if any future proposal is brought forward."
